One of my favorite aspects of using a Bullet Journal has been the amazing creative community on Instagram. I’ve made some good friends, and I’m inspired every single day by their creativity. I thought it would be fun to introduce some of them to my readers in an ongoing weekly interview series called Sublime Creatives! Today, I’m excited to feature Bobbi from Ink and Merlot.
HI! My name is Bobbi and I’m the creator of Ink and Merlot, an online Etsy and Instagram that offers hand lettering and calligraphy for those of us who live and love a creative life. I’m a Bullet Journal fanatic and lover of all things shiny. I find peace in a good workout and writing. I live my life for The Lord and seek Him in all things.
Tell me a bit about the history of your business. How did it start? What led you to do what you’re doing?
I started off as a receptionist with too much time on her hands. The extra time turned into a blog, which turned into an Instagram, that turned into a Bullet Journal journey, and led to the desire to be my own boss. By God’s grace, I was given the opportunity to do so when my company was purchased. Through hard work and perseverance I am almost ready to launch my shop and live my dream.
What’s the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome in your life/business?
The biggest hurdle I’ve had to overcome so far is fear. Fear of my own failure and even my own potential. Many times I have sat down to work on my shop only to be overwhelmed with the feeling that I can’t do it. That what I am offering is not enough, and that there is no one who would be interested in anything I can offer. The truth is that’s not true and no matter how scared I might be if I didn’t try, then I had already failed.
What is the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received?
As cliche as it may sound, the best advice I’ve gotten has been to never be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t know how to do something, or if you don’t understand, don’t be afraid to ask. No question is a stupid question. You are always learning, and questions are how you keep doing so.
Do you have any fun products or projects in the works or coming out soon?
I’m currently working on trying to get my Etsy Shop up and running. I’ve been creating some fun and beautiful wall art pieces as well as printable Bullet Journal pages for those wishing to start down the bujo road with some help.
What’s the biggest life lesson you’ve learned lately?
I’ve learned to lean on my support groups. Whether it’s my family, my fiance, or my online contacts, leaning on them during hard times can get one through anything.
What are you currently obsessed with?
I’m currently obsessed with embossing. I swear I have embossed almost every portable surface in my household. My journals, my desk, my storage unit, EVERYTHING has gotten a new and shiny addition.
What is one thing you can’t live without?
My water bottle. I know it’s silly, but I take it with me everywhere. I’m always putting new stickers on the bottle to add to my collection. Plus, I have a goal of drinking a gallon of water a day, so that bottle is always with me.
What is your favorite quote?
Share 3 blogs, 3 books, and 3 Instagram accounts you’re loving.
3 Instagram Accounts:
Do you have a word of the year? If so, what is it, and give a brief description of why you chose it.
My word of the year is YES. Too often do I say no to things out of fear or selfishness. This year is about saying yes and taking a leap of faith.
Where can people connect with you online?
I’m all over social media! My Instagram is InkandMerlot. My blog is musingsofachalkysongbird.com soon to become inkandmerlot.com. I also have a Twitter under InkandMerlot. Plenty of places to connect with me! I would love to hear from you.
A note from Kim:
I first met Bobbi during the #selfloveseptember challenge. I could tell from the beginning she was someone I’d connect with. She’s very creative, super sweet, and determined to figure things out. I really admire all 3 of those qualities. I’m excited to watch as her business grows in the future. Be sure you go follow her over on Instagram. She has an incredible knack with photography!
