How much time do you spend doing things you love?
It’s not unusual for me to end the day frazzled and exhausted after running around and taking care of everyone but me. As women we sometimes feel like it’s somehow a badge of honor to be the martyr and take care of everyone’s needs but your own. If you feel like being busy makes you successful, you might want to take a closer look at how you’re spending your time.
One of my own personal coaches recently encouraged me to make a list of little things that make me happy. My list includes things like bubble baths, driving through the canyon, reading, curling my hair, putting lotion on before bed, chatting with my daughters, trying a new recipe, making lists, snuggling on the couch with my husband, watching netflix while I run on the treadmill, listening to podcasts while I drive, and so many more. My latest favorite is laying on the trampoline in the evening just listening to all the sounds around me.
As you can see, these things are so simple, but they are the things that feed my soul.
I keep a list in my planner and try to do one of these every day. None of them are life altering in themselves, but over time, I’ve started to feel that I’m important–that my needs really matter.
The more you feel happy, optimistic, and fulfilled in life, the more successful you’ll be. No matter what you’re pursuing, whether it’s a healthier body, closer relationships, business success, or anything else, being happy will get you there a whole lot faster. I’ve learned over time that EVERYTHING is energy.
Think about the people you are most attracted to. It’s likely they are happy, confident, and positive. These types of energies attract people, resources, and opportunities faster than simply being busy and working hard ever will.
If you want to be more successful, focus on getting more joy in your life on a daily basis. This life is a journey, and it wasn’t just meant to be endured, it was meant to be joyful.
Perhaps the greatest benefit of creating a Happy List is that it puts your happiness and fulfillment in your own hands–where it should be. We often get caught up in waiting for something or someone to come along and make us happy. It’s not uncommon to think I’ll be happy when . . .
But why wait? CHOOSE to be happy today. Start by making a list of simple pleasures that make you happy. Make time to do one every day. I think you’ll be amazed at how it will transform your life.
