I love Instagram! It’s so fun to get a more personal peek into the lives of the bloggers I follow online. One of my favorite accounts to follow is @fitmencook. After all, who doesn’t like the idea of men cooking?
I was excited when Kevin contacted me about reviewing his new book, No Cheats Needed: 6 Weeks to a Healthier, Better You.
About the Author
Kevin started his own health and fitness journey after a friend tagged him in a photo on Facebook and he was surprised by his appearance. I understand that feeling. Somehow I never look in pictures the way I picture myself in my head.
Throughout his journey, Kevin kept three journals:
1) One to track his workouts.
2) One in the kitchen to track the recipes he created and make note of the ones he liked.
3) One that he used to track his thoughts and feelings and things he was learning about himself.
I love this idea! The book was created around that same premise. It’s not really a recipe or meal planning book, although it does include those elements. It approaches health and fitness from a holistic perspective in an organized systematic way.
Each day includes a devotional thought and question for you to consider. At the beginning of each week, there’s a challenge for you to follow, then at the end of the week there’s a weekly wrap-up where you evaluate your progress for the week. You write down what worked, what didn’t, and what you will change the next week as well as answer a few new questions each week.
I love the way Kevin created the daily assignments and organized them by a weekly challenge. And the follow-up questions are the key to making continual progress. I think the book is brilliant and highly recommend it.
If you’re not the kind of person who likes to explore your thoughts and feelings, this might not be the book for you. But, from my experience over the last year during my own personal transformation, I’ve discovered that mindset is THE KEY to creating a permanent change.
No Cheats Needed is available on Amazon in both Paperback and Kindle format. I’d suggest either buying the paperback so you can write in it, or buying a small notebook to complete the daily devotional activities.
