I’m happy to feature Lisa Grace Byrne’s new book, Replenish, for my Pick of the Week.
I’ve been following Lisa at Well Grounded Life for a couple years. I can honestly say she is one of my favorite people online. Anytime I have a chance to listen in on an interview or webinar she’s doing, I never pass it up.
I’ve participated in her Cleanse Your Life course and loved it. Her teaching style and genuine personality really speak to me. She’s an expert in the subject matter she teaches, but even more than that, she’s an expert in what it means to be human, and especially what it means to be a mom. Every time I’ve been involved in any of her teaching, I feel like I’ve been given a soft place to be myself, and I leave feeling more capable of handling my crazy busy life as a mom.
I heard that Lisa was writing a book, and couldn’t wait to read it. I expected it to be amazing, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was like getting hours of Lisa’s time all to myself.
About the Book
HOW WOULD LIFE BE DIFFERENT if you could live, love, and mother with a full tank of energy and deep reserves of calm?
Most moms are brought to their knees in gratitude and love for the gift of motherhood. We wouldn’t trade this role for the world, and yet, many of us are not experiencing it the way we want to be. We don’t have the reserves of inner calm, we don’t feel ready for our days with energy and vitality, and we don’t know how to keep ourselves replenished while we’re pouring out our lives for those we love the most. It’s a paradox that leaves us feeling like we’re wasting the most precious and amazing years of our motherhood journeys feeling depleted, scattered and flat.
Whether you feel like you’re drowning, or like you’re treading water day after day and getting more exhausted by the minute, the first step is to take care of the core essentials of your wellbeing. Replenish explores the seven core essentials that get us out of the water and able to catch our breath again so we can live, love and mother with greater calm, clarity and vitality in the world.
My Thoughts
I’m well acquainted with the duality that motherhood brings. At times I am so grateful for my children, while at others I’m frazzled, lost, and wonder how I’m going to make it through. At all times I’m in awe that I’ve been trusted with these sweet spirits here on the earth. But often, I feel far less than capable. Sometimes I wonder if I’m helping or hurting them. I see my own hangups and weaknesses manifesting themselves in my kids, especially my daughters. I want to squeeze them tight and make them see another way.
I’m a fan of self-improvement and read a lot of books on the topic, but none have touched me quite like Replenish. It’s written for mothers, but it’s not a parenting book. Replenish focuses on the fact that every mother needs and deserves to take care of herself, and that doing so will benefit the lives of her children and everyone around her. It’s not uncommon as a mother to know you need to care of yourself before you can effectively care for anyone else. But as a mother, buried in dishes, laundry, homework, and carpools, it’s hard to even fit self care into the mix.
Replenish solves this problem with 7 core essentials of wellbeing:
- Calm Mind
- Sovereign Thoughts
- Nourished Body
- Restorative Rest
- Joyful Movement
- Anchored Quiet
- Authentic Connection
Each of these areas is explored in depth, and practical tools are given to help you show up as your best self TODAY. Lisa has three little ones herself and she includes her real-life experiences which makes Replenish easy to relate to and an engaging read. It’s a book you’ll want to highlight and read many times to absorb and apply all the wonderful tools and information it provides.
What do you struggle with most as a mother? Leave a comment and I’ll address some of them in future blog posts.
